1. Terracotta Warriors (Xi'an)
---- It's something you gotta see, like the Great Wall or the Forbidden City, but it's not really a fun day out. You're not even allowed to take photo, although almost everyone does.
---- I visited there in September. I guess it's peak season coz so many ppl there that I even couldn't hear what the guide was saying. And I didn't have a chance to see the famous trio.
Terracotta Army souvenir is about 10-20 rmb each box, but you can bargain with them and take it at the price of 2 rmb.
---- It's worthwhile! after all it's one of the eight wonders of the world.
I suggest visiting hall No.1 and No.2. No.3 hall is not that fun.
---- Take only Bus number "306" travel to Terracotta Warriors. It only cost you RMB 6 from Xi'an city to Huaqing Pool. After that you can take 306 (306 bus is available every 6 mins) again travelling to Qing Tomb. You need to pay RMB 2 for a short distance. The last stop will be Terracotta, you need to pay an additional RMB 2 for the short trip. Beware of those who try to sell you ticket to Terracotta. Just go for bus "306". If you are not sure, you can speak to people who works in KFC and Mcdonal.
---- Hi there, I went during Golden Week-but on Oct 7th, so not crowded at all.
---- Tour guidance is necessary which can help you learn more and save you time. I paid guide 30 rmb. He does not sell things and introduced clearly and detailed. Quite good.
---- S-H-O-C-K-E-D. Ancient copper trios are made of highly sophisticated manufacturing technologies.
2. Forbidden City (Beijing)
---- Wait until September! Such an amazing place. I've been twice; once in a bit of a rush to see "everything," along with huge crowds of other tourists. The second time, a lucky weekday afternoon in the fall when, for some reason, we had whole courtyards at a time for ourselves. If I were coming this summer and especially around the Olympics, I'd try a Monday or Tuesday... but it'll still be crowded. If you can somehow wait till after the Olympics....
---- Forbidden City is the best. A mecca for tourists. The renovation is making it look fabulous.
---- Yes, it's an amazing place. But where can I get a good mocha latte, for cryin' out loud? FREE STARBUCKS!
---- Best place in Beijing! Grand, gorgeous, marvelous… no words can truly and thoroughly express my amazement and awe and admiration and…
---- I couldn't help praising the wisdom and hard work of the ancient Chinese. A great opportunity to open my eyes! I kept taking photos since I entered the gate regardless of all the tiredness and coldness in Nov.
---- A magnificent place! By every means to spend at least 5 hours here and hire a professional guide; you couldn't really understand what's behind its mysterious veil otherwise. Anyway, try your best to avoid crowds though it's nearly impossible.

---- Hi, guys! After your visit to the Forbidden City, do not forget to climb onto Jing Shan Hill, on whose top you can have a wonderful view of the whole Forbidden city. ONLY RMB 5 for Jing Shan Park.
3. Badaling Great Wall (Beijing)
---- It's only good for groups of unexperienced or aged tourists, like my parents, but for travelers and backpackers it's just another Disneyland. Better options are Simatai, Mutianyu and the best one (for me) is Huanghua Cheng, unknown for the wide public, since it's not even officially open as a tourist spot, haven't been restored, hard to get there, a bit dangerous to climb and there is no entrance fee (only 2 kuai for the builders of the stairs). But for parents and kids, Badaling is still the better option.
---- not the best place to see the wall unless your idea of fun is huge crowds and cheesy commercialism! go further afield (it's a long wall!) to find some privacy and the immensity and historical weight of it all will REALLY hit you!
---- I didn't understand the old saying "He who hasn't been to the Great Wall is not a true man" until I climbed up the Wall. Soooo high and steep! Only when you reach the top can you feel the magnificence. Really worth a visit!
---- And when I climbed the raw Wall, I was seriously scared.
---- All the good feelings are destroyed by the large number of people. You will be more worried about your safety. Better go to Simatai Great Wall if possible.
---- I've been in Beijing for a year and once went to the Great Wall several times. Worth going but better go there by yourself. Take the Bus no. 919 at Deshengmen. Remember there are many illeagal buses and taxis without a business license which tend to overcharge you and may even take you to a wrong place. Don't be taken in then.
---- The happiest thing is to appreciate the Great Wall from a distance on the tour bus. The Wall is like a Giant dragon lying among the mountains. I truly understood what "wonder" means when I saw it.
---- The world-known Badaling Great Wall has been restored and it is no longer what it used to be. Really a pity! Anyway, I've been to the Great Wall, and it still looks great.
4. Victoria Peak (Hong Kong)
---- My favorite part of my visit. Took the tram up (it puts the "fun" in "funicular") and then after enjoying the view and a nice plate of fresh oysters and a couple bloody mary's at the outdoor restaurant at the top of the peak took a few hours walking back down along HK's crazy switchback roads past amazing mountainside villas and through beautiful foliage, little shrines... and of course great views along the way.
Wear a good pair of walking shoes, bring a bag for a few snacks and some water, and you're good to go...
---- what a view! worth 2 trips for day and night views of the city and harbor!
---- Oysters on the half shell and a Grey Goose martini on the Peak Lookout terrace: Heavenly.
5. Three Gorges (Yangtze Cruise)
---- I visited Sanxia in 1994. The Three Gorges is very powerful, but I like the beauty and spirituality of The Small Three Gorges much better. I still remember the White Horse Hole, Panda Hole and Hanging Coffins. 4 out of 5, for sure.
---- The scenery, accommodation and food are all good, but transportation is not convenient. Also, dont expect to do any shopping there.
---- Ladies and Gentlemen of Sanxia, My wife is a kindergarten teacher, so one of our traditions is traveling for New Year's Eve. This year, we're headed for the Three Gorges. Will the Three Gorges be open, or will everything be shut down (restaurants, museums, etc) for the New Year holiday? Thanks a lot.
